Kythnos

Although Kythnos – aka Thermia due to its thermal springs – is one of the Cycladic islands closest to Attica, it remains one of the most unexplored corners of the Aegean.

Genuine Cycladic landscapes, well-designed with a unique grid of dry stone walls, golden beaches, tavernas with dining tables on the wet sand, mountain routes and original photographic stills will make you quickly put Kythnos back on your summer schedule.

Stroll through Chora, Messaria, with its whitewashed alleyways, flower-filled courtyards and old churches, explore the narrow uphill alleyways and walk up the steps of Dryopida that lead to verdant little squares. Stop at Piazza or Agora, a network of alleys where the heart of the settlement beats in the summer.

Relax in the thermal waters built under Otto’s Rule in 1836 in Loutra, a beautiful fishing village with a small marina for sailing boats that roam the Aegean.

Swim in outstanding beaches but also in Kolona, one of the best beaches in Greece, where an all-white strip of land joins Kythnos with the islet of Agios Loukas creating two impressive sandy beaches with turquoise waters, and see how the famous Thermiotikos Balos is danced in one of the island’s traditional festivals.

Don’t miss: Visit the unique settlement of Panagia of Kanala and take deep breaths of coolness in the dense pine forest, one of the greenest spots on the island.
